Claude Viret uses his talent to go where he will. He brings us through the meandering of his instinct, but we never lose ourselves there. Figuration acts here like the memory of an expressed sensuality. Each of his sculptures is a thought which one can touch. Modeling the substance of his essence into feeling, he sculpts to the scale of his hand, as if to better establish that mute dalogue with the curve which springs forth or the flat form he caresses, as if to better possess the object of his fantasies. He has no speeches, and even fewer messages. He offers us his dreams, and allows us to speak about them. It is a space of freedom in this world where contemporary art all too often imposes and inflicts a hermetic form of reading, which leaves us totally outside the work. Claude Viret talks freely and waits for our view to contribute to the narration.
